This is a fun event that I have hosted twice before, a few people have asked when I will put it on again, so here goes.This Good Friday event is in two parts.
We will be parking our cars in Whitchurch (free parking), then it is a short walk to Symonds Yat West where we start the hike.
The hike is a 9 mile walk along the Wye Valley to Kerne Bridge.
We need to be at Kerne Bridge for 11.00.
At Kerne Bridge we will be jumping into Canoes which are being transported there by the Canoe Company - Wye Canoes.
Once we have had a briefing and been issued our kit we all paddle back along the beautiful Wye.
The price of this event is £40
10 for the walk and £30pp for a space in a two person canoe.
This payment is non-refundable.

Once you have paid you will be moved to the going list.
£30 buys you one place on a two person canoe. This is what the campany charge, I am not making a profit on this. £60 per two man canoe is the rate all the companies on the Wye charge.

I am not leading the paddle back, I am l leading the hike out!
When we go to collect the canoes we will be givin a briefing by one of their guys. He/She will explain everything about the current river conditions like flow, where the shallow bits are etc. They will also issue us our kit - buoyancy aid, paddle and maybe helmet.
After the briefing we pair up and jump in our canoes. We will travel back together and look after each other but as I said, I am not leading, we are a bunch of friends who have hired canoes like any other group hiring canoes that day.
Kit-
A little bit different than normal.
Hiking kit as usual. For the paddle back I would suggest a pair of old trainers that you dont mind getting wet. You definitely need footwear on for the canoe back, if your canoe bottoms out one of you will have to step out to give a little push to get going again, its very easy to cut your feet on rocks and rubbish on the river bed.
Food and drink -
It is quite a long day. Bring enough food and drink to sustain you.
We will have a break on the hike and we find a nice beach spot to have a break on the canoe back too.
On the canoes they do issue us a water tight drum where you can store kit.

How to find us -
We will be meeting in the morning (leave 07.30), out side Woods of Whitchurch cafe, by the clock tower. Please dont park directly out side the cafe, they don't like it. There is plenty of space along the road, I will be there to direct.
