Cool off this summer by strolling back into the Ice Age, 13,000 years ago. Long Canyon is a unique ecosystem in OSMP; its high moisture and cool climate allow populations of Ice Age flora to survive and thrive. We will search for the elusive Paper Birch trees, a relict population and the only stand left in Colorado. This is a moderate hike of about 3 miles, with some elevation gain. Meet OSMP Naturalist Ellen Steiner on the south side of Realization Point off Flagstaff Road. Parking and Special Considerations:
Please arrive early as parking may be difficult in the area. Additional parking is located 0.14 miles from the trailhead at an OSMP maintenance building. Please do not block any gates or entrances. If there is lightning in the area, this program will be cancelled. Please check your email and www.naturehikes.org before the program.
