About this Event
Monday 15th July | 6pm - 7pm
A goodly portly man - his name is Falstaff.
The enduring appeal of some dramatic characters looms larger than the plays in which they appear. He may be Shakespeare’s greatest rogue, braggart and liar, but Sir John Falstaff has always been a magnet for theatre-goers and actors alike. Anticipating a new interpretation coming to the Theatre Royal, this illustrated lecture offers a chance to examine the character in relation not just to “Henry IV parts I and II” and “The Merry Wives of Windsor”, but also to historical sources, popular culture, artistic representation, his off-stage death and his operatic incarnation.
