About this Event

This 50 minute introductory workshop aims to support participants to explore their relationship to writing and creative self-expression. Research shows that a regular writing practice can be helpful and empowering for pretty much everyone!

When: Sunday November 17th at 12pm

Where: Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre, 105 Capel Street, Dublin 01, D01 R290

Cost: €5 total, or email [email protected] for a free space

Open to LGBTQ+ women and non binary people.

Facilitated by Clare Egan - a writer, editor and social entrepreneur. Her work has appeared in The Huffington Post, The Irish Times, Longreads, and many others. It has also been rejected widely! She is the founder of Beyond Survival, a social enterprise which aims to help survivors of sexual violence feel less alone. She lives in Dublin with her partner and pets.

Some people feel more at home in other formats - music, art, cooking - but the beauty of writing is that it is free, requires minimal equipment and can adapt to fit into our lives. Our bodies' ability to create ebbs and flows. There are times when life is just too full for writing. When we’re exhausted or over-stimulated, it’s not always useful to force yourself to write. But when we have some capacity, carving out a little time to yourself on the page can be incredibly helpful.

This workshop will include a short presentation, a structured opportunity to write followed by participant discussion. This will be a generative space, focused on creating work rather than polishing it to perfection.

The primary goal of the workshop is to encourage participants to explore their relationship with the page. There won’t be any deadlines, reading our work aloud or criticism of other people’s work. Instead, we’ll come together to write guided by the principles of inclusivity, creativity and self-expression.

Proposed schedule:

Introduction - 15 mins

Writing prompt - 25 mins

Q&A & conclusion - 10 mins

Participants should bring a notebook and pen or whatever they feel most comfortable writing with.
