About this Event

Join us for a tour of eight magnificent trees in the Cemetery. We will learn of their virtues including the fragrant materials that are collected and extracted from each. You will recieve a millinery leaf or flower spiked with the essence from each tree that together will make a lovely boutonniere for you to take home as a keepsake.

Every guest will also recieve a one ounce nip of homemade Hawthorn Brandy to take home.

Green-Wood Cemetery was established in 1838 as one of America’s first rural cemeteries, it soon developed an international reputation for its magnificent beauty and quickly became the fashionable place to be buried. Crowds flocked here to enjoy family outings, carriage rides, and sculpture viewing. Green-Wood’s popularity helped inspire the creation of public parks, including New York City’s Central and Prospect Parks. It’s a National Historic Landmark.

It is 478 spectacular acres of hills, valleys, glacial ponds, and paths, throughout which exists one of the largest outdoor collections of nineteenth- and twentieth-century statuary and mausoleums as well as its 570,000 permanent residents.

Green-Wood is also a world-renowned arboretum featuring a dynamic living collection of trees and shrubs, one of NYC’s largest collection of trees. In June 2015 it received arboretum accreditation.

Note that this tour starts at the side gate of Green-Wood Cemetery on Prospect Park West and 20th St. Please meet just inside of the gates in front of the map kiosk.
