A Force More Powerful is a documentary series on one of the 20th century’s most important and least-known stories: how nonviolent power overcame oppression and authoritarian rule. The episode we will be screening is focused on the 1960s, lunch counter sit ins held in Nashville, Tennessee. Disciplined and strictly nonviolent, black students successfully desegregated Nashville’s downtown lunch counters in five months, becoming a model for the entire civil rights movement.
We will watch the doco and then share discussion on the nonviolent direct action strategies employed during the lunch counter campaign.
