A Flock of Seagulls is more than a one-hit wonder — they’re a new wave legacy. Known for the soaring single “I Ran (So Far Away)” and their unforgettable haircuts, the band helped define the look and sound of the early MTV era. Formed in 1980 by lead vocalist and keyboardist Mike Score, the group quickly gained traction in underground clubs with the release of Telecommunication, before taking off internationally with their self-titled debut in 1982.
Hits like “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)” and “Space Age Love Song” followed, showcasing a signature blend of icy synths, echoing guitars, and emotionally charged melodies. While lineup changes and shifts in the music landscape followed, Mike Score kept the band’s spirit alive — touring consistently and releasing new material, including the acclaimed 2024 comeback album Some Dreams, praised by fans as their best since 1984.
