Started in 2009, A Fistful of Soul is an all-vinyl soul dance party hosted by DJs Stewart Anderson, Joe Ross, Jason Woods, and Alex La Rotta. At its peak, AFOS was the biggest soul dance party of its kind in the U.S., averaging 700+ attendees in a long stretch of now-legendary parties at Houston's Continental Club. We've had the fortune of sharing the stage with special guests from punk icon Jello Biafra to European soul DJ legends to Houston's own Archie Bell as well as friends/heavy-hitters from all over. For several years, AFOS consistently won "Best DJ Night/Best Dance Night" from the Houston Press Awards and Free Press Music Awards.
Fistful came back together last year for an epic return, an overly-packed house, inside and out, and a damn fine soul dance party! As always, AFOS is a night of all-vinyl, all original 45s, curated by collective decades of digging in the crates for the best in familiar and rare sounds in Motown-era soul, R&B, funk, and boogaloo with an emphasis on Houston and Gulf Coast soul.
Join us for our epic annual bash and quinceaƱera, 12/21, with special guest DJs soon to be announced!
