San Polo is an organic, casaclima certified wine estate owned by the Allegrini family and located in the southeastern part of Montalcino. The first Brunello di Montalcino DOCG wines were made here in 1997, and today San Polo makes a range of wines that also includes some Toscana IGT cuvées and a Rosso di Montalcino. The estate has 16 hectares (40 acres) of vines that were planted between 1990 and 2000. These vineyards, planted predominantly to Sangiovese, sit at around 1300ft (400m) above sea level, overlooking Monte Amiata and the Valle Sant'Antimo. The potential of their terroirs means that the Sangiovese varietal is always at the forefront of the pursuit of quality beyond compromise. The result is a range of excellent wines which express 100% Tuscan personality.
In 1992, Charles Bieler’s father, Philippe Bieler, founded Chateau Routas in Coteaux Varois – a small appellation in the middle of Provence. The winery focused on Grenache based red blends and rosé. It is there, starting in 1998, that Charles learned the wine business and started producing wine. In 2005, there was a great opportunity to sell the winery and estate and Philippe took it. Philippe and Charles founded Bieler Père et Fils that same year and have never looked back. The wines are critically acclaimed at approachable, friendly prices. Moving on to Spain we have wines from Rioja and Rias Baixas. Known for producing round wines with great body and structure, each bottle of Rioja wine is hand-crafted by and contains the signature of Miguel Ángel de Gregorio. Considered to be Spain’s first terroirist, Miguel Ángel’s sincere dedication to natural farming and preserving the integrity of Rioja Alta, are why he is one of the region’s most celebrated winemakers and a mastermind when it comes to making world class estate-grown wines. And finally, we explore wine from Bodegas Terras Gauda, meaning ""joyous land."" A premium boutique winery group, the Terras Gauda wineries were founded in 1989. The original Terras Gauda estates and winery are located in O Rosal, Rias Baixas,; the group also encompasses Pittacum in D.O. Bierzo and Quinta Sardonia in the Douro area, the most recent addition to the group founded by Peter Sisseck. Rías Baixas is a D.O. wine zone in the Galicia region of northwestern Spain, located along the Atlantic coastline. Terras Gauda is a leader in working with the heirloom varieties of Rías Baixas, including Albariño and the rare Caiño Blanco, an indigenous grape used in the O Rosal blend.
