About this Event
In Defense of the Arts Series*
Contentious. Divided. Angry. Depressed. Uncertain. Lack of trust. Accusatory. Unsympathetic. Suspicious. War. Selfishness. Control. Power.
There is no doubt that our current culture is wading through these conditions. Add to these the tension of economic uncertainty and the cultural tone stiffens even more. How does one justify even giving a thought to the arts or creative endeavors in these times?
Does art help? How does it help? Why even give it the time? Is it good for our particular community? Is it good for us as citizens?
These are not new questions, but ones that need addressing/readdressing from time to time. In a series of three talks this Fall, Kirk Irwin—the director of Friday Arts Project—will attempt to do just that.
