About this Event
The Hurston/Wright Foundation's Legacy Awards honor the best in Black literature. The Legacy Award is the first national award presented to Black writers by a national organization of Black writers. Our 2022 opening reception will take place on the rooftop of the beautifully renovated Martin Luther King, Jr Memorial Library in Washington, DC.
The event will feature musical entertainment by a soon-to-be-announced Grammy-nominated vocalist who will perform singles from her latest album. We are also excited to announce speakers and authors Marita Golden, Lucy Anne Hurston-- niece of Zora Neale Hurston--, Briana Thomas, author of Black Broadway in DC, and more! Books by our 2022 Legacy Award nominees will be on sale during the event, sold by Mahogany Books. Your purchased ticket includes lunch, access to luncheon activities, including a 360 photo booth, and access to our onsite bookstore.
