Join us for a day in Mayberry (Mount Airy, NC) on Thursday, June 12th!We depart Farragut (Cracker Barrel-716 N Campbell Station Rd) at 6:30am and Knoxville (Walmart-3501 Kinzel Way) at 7:15am to arrive in Mayberry by 11:30am. Upon arrival lunch will be on your own at one of the many local restaurant/deli options. We meet back up with our tour host at 12:45pm at the Earle Theatre, a beautifully restored, vintage cinema that transports you back in time.
After the theatre, you’ll take a short walk to the Andy Griffith Museum, where you can dive deeper into the history of the show and its creator. The museum houses a fascinating collection of memorabilia, including rare photos, Andy Griffith’s personal belongings, costumes, and props from the show. As you explore, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how The Andy Griffith Show became a cultural phenomenon and how Andy Griffith’s life and career shaped it. The museum celebrates both his legacy as an actor and his connections to his hometown of Mount Airy.
From the museum, it’s just a quick walk to the Mayberry Courthouse. This replica of the show’s iconic courthouse lets you step into the world of Sheriff Andy Taylor, Deputy Barney Fife, and all the beloved characters of Mayberry. Here you will get to enjoy exhibits that provide context on the show’s production and its significance in American television history. Next you have some free time to browse the many unique shops and boutiques along main street before we depart for home at 5pm. We will stop for an included dinner in Wytheville, VA at 6pm before continuing onto Knoxville. We arrive back at Walmart at 10pm and Farragut at 10:30pm.
