Announcing A Dancers Journey 2023!!Each Year we surprise ourselves yet again with how amazing our Teachers are!
At Arabesque World Dance, our intent is to bring teachers, performers, and musicians to our area that enrich our community. A Dancers Journey is one of our favorite and highly acclaimed events of the year!!
This years Teacher is the lovely, talented, and incomparable Tamalyn Dallal!
Tamalyn Dallal has performed for stars such as Sean Connery, Michael Jackson and James Brown, the president of El Salvador, Saudi Arabian princes, and the King of Jordan (to name a few).
Directing the Mid Eastern Dance Exchange, a non profit organization, dance school and performing company, from 1990- 2007, she taught and mentored many dancers who became well known throughout the world. She organized the Orientalia International dance festival and produced numerous theatrical productions.
She has performed and/or taught in 44 countries, was one of the original "Bellydance Superstars", has written four books, produced two music CD's of Africa's oldest band, the "Ikhwan Safaa Musical Club of Zanzibar", and filmed ethnological dance documentaries; Zanzibar Dance, Trance and Devotion, was completed in 2011. Ms. Dallal released "Ethiopia Dances for Joy" in 2013.
Every year, from 2003 until Covid-19 caused her dancing to move online, Tamalyn has traveled to Asia to teach and dance for extended periods. She taught a month long workshop in China every year for ten years and has taught regularly in Japan, Thailand, and Indonesia, as well as periodically in Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea. Over this period of many years, she has mentored and worked closely with Christine Yaven (Indonesia), Wendi Weng (China/NY), Estelle Shao (China), Sakina (China), Leila Hiromi (Japan), Ayako Date (Japan), and more.
She now lives in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she teaches classes on Zoom and will teach live classes as conditions permit.
Tamalyn's latest endeavor is the children's book, "The Bellydancing Kitties of Constantinople," which was released in April, 2019. She is in the process of writing a script for an animated film entitled "The Purrfect Pasha."

We have requested that this be a weekend full of technique, stagecraft, and cultural content!! So NO choreography classes, or fluff! Just LOTS & LOTS of amazing dance training!
❤ Our Planned Schedule of Classes:
<3 Friday Evening 6:30 to 8:30 PM
All About Veils - One of Tamalyn's specialties. Her veil work is unique and creative.
<3 Saturday Morning 10 to 12 noon
Shimmering Shimmies - There are so many ways to Shimmy! Tamalyn shares a variety of techniques as well as approaches to different styles of music to shimmy to.
<3 Saturday Light Lunch Buffet Included with Class Attendance 12-1:00 PM
Salad, Mezza, and Light Proteins and Fruit.
<3 Saturday Afternoon 1:00 to 3:00 PM
Rhythms and Combos Part One - Tamalyn will teach how to recognize and dance to these rhythms...Chiftitelli, Wahda, Masmoudi, Beledi, and Maqsoum.
<3 Sunday Morning 10 to 12 noon
Rhythms and Combos Part Two - Tamalyn will teach how to recognize and dance to these rhythms...Semaii, Turkish 9/8, Turkish 2/4, Malfuf, and Ayoub
<3 Sunday Afternoon 1 to 3 PM
Hands and Arms - This is another of Tamalyn's specialties. She breaks down and polishes hand and arm movements in detail.

~Veils for Friday night!
<3 Dance shoes are optional, we have a smooth, sprung wood floor. If you do bring shoes, please make sure they are non-marking soles.
<3 Please avoid bringing noisy hip scarves. ?
<3 We will have water (both cold & room temperature) available for WS attendees
<3 During the lunch breaks, students are welcome to bring a box/bagged lunch and store in our refrigerator, please note we will have a light lunch available on Saturday for students to enjoy. Students are welcome to stay on site during lunch break! There are also MANY options for a quick meal nearby!
<3 We are hoping to have a vendor or two as well! So you can shop before, between, and after the workshops if you are interested!
