About this Event
Algeria stands at a pivotal moment as it pursues ambitious economic, social, and political reforms while navigating persistent challenges, including youth unemployment, governance gaps, and dependence on hydrocarbons. At the same time, its strategic role as a security actor and diplomatic broker in North Africa and the Sahel continues to expand, alongside growing engagement in global discussions on energy transition, climate resilience, and sustainable development.
In this edition of the Ambassador Series, H.E. Sabri Boukadoum, Algeria’s Ambassador to the United States, will join Hafed Al-Ghwell, Senior Fellow and Director of the North Africa Program at the Stimson Center, for an in-depth discussion on Algeria’s domestic reform agenda, evolving foreign policy priorities, and the future of U.S.–Algeria relations.
The conversation will explore Algeria’s efforts to diversify its economy, empower youth, and strengthen governance, as well as its role in regional security, counterterrorism, migration management, and renewable energy cooperation. Participants will gain a nuanced understanding of Algeria’s trajectory and its implications for U.S. policy and engagement in North Africa and the Mediterranean.
This event continues Stimson’s engagement in North Africa’s evolving economic and policy landscape through dialogue with leading decision-makers shaping the region’s future.
