A conversation with Debbie Millman.
AIGA Chicago and the Design Museum of Chicago present a conversation on Why Design Matters with Debbie Millman and Tanner Woodford.
Design Matters is one of the world's very first podcasts, to which many of us subscribe and listen on repeat. Broadcasting independently for 17 years, the show is about how creative people design the arc of their lives. For the first time ever, a book about Design Matters with interviews and essays is launching on 11/09/2021.
Debbie will dig into the process of making the book and what she has learned hosting the popular podcast. After her presentation, Debbie will join Tanner Woodford of the Design Museum Chicago. They will have an intimate conversation on what it means to design a creative life.
You may pre-order Debbie’s new book Why Design Matters: Conversations with the World’s Most Creative People now. The estimated pre-order delivery is November 9, two days after the event.

SPEAKERS + HOST
Debbie Millman
Named “one of the most creative people in business” by Fast Company, and “one of the most influential designers working today” by Graphic Design USA, Debbie Millman is also an author, educator, curator, and host of the podcast Design Matters.
Debbie’s podcast, Design Matters is one of the first and longest-running podcasts, and as host and founder, Millman has interviewed nearly 500 of the most creative people in the world over the past 17 years. Design Matters won a 2011 Cooper Hewitt National Design Award, in 2015 Apple designated it one of the best overall podcasts on iTunes, and in 2021 designated it one of their “All Time Favorite Podcasts.” In addition, the show has been nominated for six Webby Awards, and has been listed on over 100 “Best Podcasts” lists, including one of the best podcasts in the world by Business Insider and Vanity Fair.
Debbie is the author of seven books, including two collections of interviews that have extended the ethos and editorial vision of Design Matters to the printed page: How to Think Like a Great Graphic Designer and Brand Thinking and Other Noble Pursuits. Both books have been published in over 10 languages. Her most recent book, Why Design Matters: Conversations with the World’s Most Creative People, will be published by Harper Collins in Fall 2021. Design Museum of Chicago
The Design Museum of Chicago inspires, educates, and fosters innovation through design. We define design broadly, from architecture to street art, from choreography to urban planning. Design is more than a powerful source of inspiration. It is an integral tool that can help to connect communities and create equity. Through free, short-term exhibitions, engaging public programming, and robust partnerships with other arts, academic, and non-profit organizations, the Design Museum contextualizes and humanizes design's influence in everyday life.
Like art, science, and the humanities, design surrounds us. It impacts our worlds deeply, affecting everything from our quality of life to our interactions with our neighbors. Bringing design to a relatable, human level allows us all to better understand the power of design and to utilize that power to fundamentally improve the human condition. Read more about the Museum.
