Karma presents a conversation with Henry Skerritt, Marina Tyquiengco, and Françoise Dussart, on the occasion the exhibition Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori at 549 West 26th Street, New York, on view from February 27–April 12, 2025.
Henry Skerritt is Assistant Professor in the Department of Art and Curator of Research at the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection of the University of Virginia. His research centers on the engagement of Indigenous peoples with the institutions of art, with a particular methodological focus on the role of Indigenous communities in curating their own art histories. Skerritt has worked on over twenty exhibitions in the United States and Australia, including Madayin.'
Marina Tyquiengco is the inaugural Ellyn McColgan Associate Curator of Native American Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She is a Chamoru scholar who received her PhD and MA from the University of Pittsburgh and her BA from the University of Virginia. She has previously taught at Brown University and University of Pittsburgh.
Françoise Dussart is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology and the Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies at the University of Connecticut. Trained in France and Australia, her specialties in social anthropology include Australian Aboriginal society and culture (as well as other Fourth World Peoples in Canada and the United States of America), iconography and visual systems, various expressions of gender, ritual and social organization, health and citizenship.
