About this Event

The 2nd annual Heartland Book Festival will take place on October 12 at the Central Library in downtown Kansas City with authors, books, activities, and more! Join us in the Helzberg Auditorium for a discussion on the comeback of independent bookstores.

Since 2020, hundreds of independent bookstores have opened across the country, including in the Kansas City metro area. Several bookstore owners, both veterans and newbies, discuss their dedication to the written word through author events, book signings, and other activities. They also discuss partnerships with community agencies to promote literacy.

Our Panelists:

Cori Smith from BLK & BRWN

Michael Travis from Rainy Day Books

La'Nesha Frazier from Bliss Books & Wine

Halley Vincent from Seven Stories

The Heartland Book Festival is co-presented by the Kansas City Public Library, Missouri Humanities, and the Missouri Center for the Book.
