About this Event
'A Cold and Stormy Night': An Old Oswestry Hillfort Folk Tale
What happened when a Norman knight named Payn Peverell came with William the Conqueror to visit Old Oswestry Hillfort? And what role did its resident giant, Gogmagog, play in their unfurling story?
Join archaeologist and folklore historian, Caroline Malim, for an evening exploring the stories of our town's most enigmatic monument.
All proceeds from this event will split between compensating our speakers, and for the organisational costs of running the wren revival.
This talk is part of the wren revival month of events, in the lead up to ‘Wren Day’ on the 21st December. We will meet on the Bailey Head in Oswestry at 2pm to process down to the Bell Inn where we will have a sing around, before processing onwards to the Memorial Hall for a Twmpath (a kind of Welsh ceilidh dance) and a communal meal - we can’t wait to see you there!
