Come to the Gregg Museum for an evening gallery walkthrough with curatorial team and collections team members, Lee Chavis-Tartaglia (NAGPRA Collections Assistant) and Meredith Osborne (Curatorial Assistant), exploring the exhibition, Through Our Eyes, In Our Hands: Prioritizing Indigenous Knowledge in Museums. This exhibit foregrounds Native perspectives on the stewardship of cultural belonging and the histories and futures of repatriation. Through Indigenous voices and frameworks, the exhibition reframes long-held museum practices, asking visitors to consider questions of authority, ownership, knowledge, and care. Chavis-Tartaglia (Lumbee) and Osborne will offer insight into the significance of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the archival materials, personal accounts, and community-based narratives in the exhibition, and the process of developing the exhibition from start to finish.
