What better place to learn the art of sensorial tasting and take a journey around the world of fine flavour chocolate than in the lovely relaxed atmosphere of Soul Foods in Alford. The evening will be an opportunity to discover just how good craft chocolate tastes and how the beans that make it are sourced as directly as possible from the farmers at origin, meaning that the makers work in partnership with farmers and fermenters to improve the quality of cacao and the livelihoods of the growers.
The evening will take you on a journey through the tropical rainforest of the different continents where cacao is grown. We will begin with a tasting of chocolate from the Upper Amazon, the origin of the Theobroma Cacao tree. Through our chocolate tasting we will then travel over the Andes, up through Ecuador to Central America to the cacao enjoyed by the Maya and Aztec cultures. We then follow cacao to Venezuela and from there to Asia and ultimately to Africa. We will be guided through our flight tasting and history of chocolate by Kathryn Laverack and we will finish with artisan coffee from Soul Foods.
Tasting fine chocolate is an experience best shared. Not only does this session teach you to practice the art of slow tasting and to get the full flavour experience from your chocolate, it also offers a great opportunity to discover new makers and share your flavour discoveries with others.
Tickets are available from Soul Foods in Alford. Tickets are limited and available at a price of £25.00 per person.
