About this Event
This gentle Sunday afternoon walk will explore the streets of central Chester at Christmas time. We'll take in the Christmas market, a relatively recent tradition, but we'll also explore medieval lanes decorated with festive lights. Many of our Christmas traditions have their origins in ancient practices and we'll trace the roots of some of these back to Rome and beyond.
Why does Chester have its unique Winter Watch parades? And what about the miracle of the Christmas lights at the Cathedral?
Your professional local guide, Katie, will share some stories along the route but you'll also have plenty of chance to chat with fellow walkers.
The walk will begin and end at the Storyhouse but there's also the option to finish up at the Christmas Market for some last minute shopping or perhaps some hot chocolate or mulled wine after your walk.
I run regular walks every month at lunchtime (3rd Wednesday of the month} and on Sunday afternoons (1st Sunday of the month) exploring different aspects of Chester's history. Please follow me for updates and new events.
Who are these netwalks for?
Literally everyone and anyone! Some of the best connections can be made whilst just walking and chatting. As well as an opportunity to get out and about in the fresh air, it is a great way to meet some like-minded people and share some interesting conversations along the way. Perfect for anyone who loves all things Chester related - local and visitor alike. These walks are very informal - please do come along and join us!
This particular walk might be a great alternative Christmas get together - no expensive set menus but a nice way to get together and do something a little different.
Where’s it happening?
Please meet outside the main entrance of the Storyhouse on Hunter Street, CH1 2AR for a prompt start at 14:15 pm.
The walk will last approximately 75 minutes and will end back at the Storyhouse .
I'll be at the meeting point from just before 2pm so please come along and introduce yourself.
The practical stuff:
The walk will go ahead whatever the weather so please dress appropriately.
Chester is a historic city and the route may cover uneven surfaces and include steps so please wear suitable footwear. If you have any mobility issues or other accessibility concerns, please contact the organiser before booking to ensure the route can be adjusted accordingly.
The event does not include refreshments but there are many options for eat-in or take-away food and drink in the local area, including at both the Storyhouse itself and at the Christmas Market.
If the event has to be cancelled at short notice for any reason, the organisers will make every effort to contact you using details provided at the time of booking.
