October 4 - Grand Opening!
Origins and Traditions (Inside Morris Art Gallery)
Through a special exhibit on loan from the Chicago Field Museum, “Celebration of Souls” delves into the origins of Dia De Los Muertos and its traditions, such as building ofrendas (altars) to honor deceased loved ones, creating elaborate sugar skulls, and decorating graves with marigolds. Visitors will learn about the symbolism behind these customs and how they are passed down through generations. Through artifacts, multimedia displays, and interactive elements, visitors can learn about the diverse beliefs and practices surrounding death and the afterlife and gain a deeper understanding of the universal human experience of mourning and remembrance.
Topeka's Hispanic and Latino Community (Inside Redbud Community Room)
Topeka is home to a vibrant Hispanic and Latino community, with a rich cultural heritage that includes traditions from Mexico, Central America, and beyond. Join us inside the NOTO Arts Center Redbud Community Room as we highlight the diversity and creativity of this community, showcasing how they have incorporated Hispanic and Latino culture into everyday life. Visitors will have a chance to view ofrendas on display and contemporary artworks inspired by Dia De Los Muertos and the Hispanic and Latino culture, all created by local artists and community members.

This exhibition was developed by The Field Museum in collaboration with Mars, Incorporated.
Humanities Kansas connects Kansans with stories, ideas, and each other to strengthen our communities.
