Celebrate National Apple day with Herefordshire Wildlife Trust
About this Event

To celebrate National Apple day, we are work with Herefordshire Food Alliance to bring together local food, cider, perry and juice producers to shine a light on the critical role of sustainable agricultural practice in safeguarding our precious ecosystems.

Join us and immerse yourself in a vibrant gathering, showcasing an exceptional variety of regional fare, informative talks and apple-related activities.

An orchard is not merely a collection of trees—it is a vibrant tapestry woven by the passage of seasons. Herefordshire's lush and diverse orchards, untouched by the harsh effects of pesticides, are rich with wildlife and vitality. Traditional orchards serve as havens for a myriad of bird species, offering natural pest control through the harmony between birds and insects. It is vital to understand the importance of these precious habitats, how they are an integral part of Herefordshire’s wider ecosystem, and how we as consumers can play our part in their preservation.

We have an exciting array of bookable talks (see below) as well as a great range of free activities throughout the day:

  • Free family activities, linking apples, soil and everything in between!  Expect juicing, food from scratch and more
  • A screening of the film Six Inches of Soil and commentary from local regenerative farmer Richard Thomas
  • Great local producers of apples, juice, cider and other great local river-friendly fayre
  • Foraged cocktail-making, tasting and book signing with Liz Knight from Forage Fine Foods
  • The role of traditional orchards with James Marsden from Gregg's Pit Cider
  • Hear about county-wide partnerships to restore the Wye and surrounding landscapes
  • Stalls from BromyardMADShow, Ross-on-Wye Cider and Perry, Wye Valley AONB, Gattertop Drinks Co., Greengate Fruit Trees,
  • + lots more!
