In a solo career now spanning 31 years and eighteen albums, twelve of Boney’s records have topped the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart and two have reached top 10 on the R&B Albums Chart.
To date, James has racked up sales of more than three million records, four RIAA gold albums, four GRAMMY nominations, a Soul Train Award, and three NAACP Image Award nominations. In 2009, Billboard named him one of the Top 3 Contemporary Jazz Artists Of The Decade.
Boney James was gigging with bands by the time he was in his teens. He apprenticed as a sideman for artists like Morris Day and the Isley Brothers before striking out on his own in 1992.
Boney is renowned for his compelling live performances. According to The Boston Globe: “…James swaggers across the stage like a blacktop hero draining treys on an overmatched opponent. He even weaves his way through the crowd, all but daring them not to have a good time.”
Opening the show will be world renowned Swiss pianist, composer, producer, the incomparable Alex Bugnon! Alex grew up attending the Montreux Jazz Festival in his hometown of Montreux in Switzerland and he identifies this as the beginning of his passion for jazz music. He attended the Paris Conservatory of Music for two years, then moved to the U.S. and went to the Berklee School of Music whilst performing as an accompanist to gospel groups. He spent four years working as a session musician in New York, backing urban and jazz performers such as Patti Austin, Freddie Jackson, James Ingram, and Keith Sweat. His live performances are legendary, combing technical poweress, and unmatched soul and passion to every performance. A must-see experience!
