A Canterbury Tale plus swing dance
(Dancing at the Empire Cinema)
For our joint movie and dance event at the charming and atmospheric 1937 art deco Empire Cinema during the Sandwich Salutes The 40s weekend we have chosen the classic 1944 movie A Canterbury Tale, written, directed and produced by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. Many of the scenes were filmed in Canterbury and the surrounding villages and countryside, and the film stars Eric Portman, Sheila Sim and Dennis Price, as well as Sgt John Sweet, a US Army sergeant serving in the UK at the time and chosen by Powell and Pressburger.
After the film we will have an evening of swing music and dance with a great mix of 1930’s and 1940’s big band swing, jump jive, western swing and Latin.
Entry per person including movie and dance, strictly pre-booking only:
£12 early bird offer until March 31st
£15 from April 1st
50% of the takings of this event after the cinema hire will go towards Sandwich Salutes the 40s.
Please email [email protected] for booking details, the cinema isn’t taking bookings.
