Join us as we celebrate the launch of a new public art trail along the canal between Etruria and Hanley Park. Appetite and Canal & River Trust asked artist Anna Francis to create a permanent work of art along the canal based on how the community in Etruria feel about where they live.For months the community has been giving us their thoughts and getting involved and now we’re thrilled to reveal the final piece: A Canalside Arcana.
A Canalside Arcana is a series of eight ceramic plaques lining the canal path from Etruria to Hanley Park that celebrate the nature that grows there.
There is also a pack of beautifully hand-drawn cards filled with interesting information about the flora and fauna you encounter along the way, plus local folklore!
There will be so much to do at both the Etruria and Hanley Park sites of our celebration launch event including:
- An introduction to A Canalside Arcana by artist Anna Francis
- Guided walks along the trail with Anna, or take a self-guided walk with a handy map
- Audley Brass playing Christmas favourites in Hanley Park bandstand
- Clay activities
- Free refreshments
- Access to the Etruria Industrial Museum (normally closed for winter)

11am: Welcome and introduction by artist Anna Francis by the Etruria Industrial Museum
11.30am: Walk one – outward walk along the canal from Etruria to Hanley Park
12.30pm: Brass band plays in Hanley Park
1.15pm: Meet for the second walk in lower Hanley Park by the footbridge over the canal
1.30pm: Walk two – Hanley Park to Etruria back along the canal

You can come along and enjoy any part of the celebration without a ticket except for the guided walks, which are bookable via Eventbrite at bit.ly/ArcanaLaunch. Alternatively you can call the Appetite office on 01782 381 373.
Tickets are free to book though there is an option to make a donation at the checkout. All donations go back into the Appetite programme to provide more inspiring events in Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme, and are greatly appreciated.
Spaces on the walks are limited so please book when you are sure you can attend. If you book and can no longer make it, please cancel your ticket in Eventbrite so that it can be given to someone else, or give us a call on the number above.
To join both walks you will need a separate ticket for each leg.
There may be opportunity to join a walk without a ticket if there a spaces available to a maximum of 25 people per walk. Walk-up slots will be available on a first come, first served basis.
