About this Event

'A Calm Brain is a Thinking Brain': Create environments with vision, expectations and advocacy

Are we designing learning environments that consider brain development or is our focus on where to put the furniture?

Historically, we have put the painting near the door or sink, the blocks in the corner away from the reading area – all very functional and practical. But have we considered the needs of the developing brain when we carefully curate our classrooms?

Join us for a unique and exciting opportunity to attend a half day session focusing on understanding how a child’s developing brain responds to the classroom environment and how this makes a huge difference to learning. join us in exploring the vision of calm, engaged classrooms, where curriculum expectations are easily met, and advocacy for learning is easy.

This interactive session will introduce the Brain-SET Environments Formula™, a theory created by Dr. Kathryn Murray and implemented globally.

Explore the What, Why and How we must support the Survival, Emotional and Thinking (S.E.T.) levels of the child’s brain through the design of the learning environment.

See how a carefully curated environment builds social and emotional learning, curriculum understandings, resilience, collaboration and critical thinking.

Understand how behaviour challenges are reduced, problem solving is increased and playfull learning happens easily. Brain development goes hand in hand with all developmental domains that must be considered when designing learning environments.

Seeing the vision for your own classroom, sets the scene for implementing small but significant brain friendly changes and allows palyful learning to happen easily.

Using the mantra of ‘A Calm Brain is a Thinking Brain’, the presenters will demonstrate how this important theory will effectively underpin the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (2024).

The connection between the developing brain and the environment will be demonstrated by sharing and discussing early childhood classroom images. Teachers will be provided with a practical, theory driven approach to accommodate the Overarching Principles and the Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning of the EYFS.

Leave the session with fresh thinking, an action plan of practical strategies, and a plan to create a truly Enabling Environment that reflects an informed approach to playful learning.
