About this Event

There are two very different types of submissions we call chokes.

One is Restricting of the blood flow, the other inhibiting breathing.

3:00 PM - 30 minute break

3:30 PM - Part 2

4:30 PM - 30 minutes of sparring

5:00 PM - Good bye

Handout
Mechanical concepts of chokes

Slings (Common: Side Choke, North - South, Upper Arm Triangle Chokes)

Slings work by reducing the space within an already tightly sealed enclosure. Commonly you tense the muscles of the slinging limb (which is supposed to be loose and relaxed as u apply the technique!) and in case of arm slings often also pull the shoulder blades together. There are other ways like pushing with the torso (Classic North - South) though.

Cutters (Common: Forearm Triangle Chokes, Standard Leg Triangle)

I define a Cutter Type Choke by the application of the pressure through two levers being DIRECTLY closed around a pivoting point. Very often this pivoting point is the Elbow but others like an Armpit or even the crutch also work. Paper Cutters and Scissors are most Powerful close to the pivoting point and so are these chokes.

Pinpoints (Van Flue, Fist Choke, Forehead Choke)

This Group is on the one hand the most difficult to apply but on the other also the most sneaky, since the application does not necessarily advertise by perceptible tightening and enclosing of the neck. Pinpoints in this categorisation mean holding the neck in place by different body parts or even the floor and pushing a structure (Fist, Forehead, medial femoral arch) onto either the vein or windpipe.

A lot of chokes carrying the same name may be applied situational by either different or a combination of the three principles

What do I have to pack and consider before?

- Bathing shoes or Flip-Flops (streetshoes aren't allowed inside the gym, walking barefoot is also not allowed inside the gym except of the training mats)

- Sportswear (make sure there are no metal parts on it like buttons or zippers)

- Waterbottle (no glas please)

- Make sure your finger- and toenails are clipped and that you aren't wearing any jewelry so you don't hurt yourself or your training partner

- Please show up 15 minutes before the seminar starts so we can check you in and show you around
