*THIS IS A 2 DAY WORKSHOP - SATURDAYS, AUGUST 3 and 17 12:30PM - 4:30PM*At the first session, you will be introduced to the basics of hand quilting: the materials needed and techniques such as basting, tying and setting a knot, and the rocking stitch. The second session will cover variations of the rocking stitch, learn Big Stitch quilting, how to mark your quilt, and provide time to practice. We will go over quilting design with examples showcased by Pattie’s own quilts. Bring in your own quilting project and ideas. At the end, let’s count your stitches to see how you have improved. Are you “Accomplished”, “Museum Quality”, or “Smithsonian”?
SUPPLIES TO BRING: Wooden Hand Quilting Hoop or Q Snap type frame 14”, hand quilting thread in contrasting color, hand quilting needles (called “betweens” size 9 is best), hand quilting thimble (flat top metal thimble), quilt tops or any planned quilt project, sewing needles and thread, scissors, and notebook and pen. The kit provided by Pattie Klimek will contain a muslin top (20” x 20”) marked with a hand-quilting pattern, backing, and batting.
The fee for the class is $100. There's a $20 kit fee, payable to the instructor. The dates of the two sessions are Saturdays, August 1 & 17 — 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM
About the instructor: Pattie is a traditional hand quilter, hand piecer, and hand embroiderer who works in the Bay Area, the home of art and contemporary quilters. Her goal is to remind quilters of the Joy of Handwork. To this end, Pattie lectures and teaches at quilt stores and guilds to pass on the techniques once learned from our mothers and grandmothers.
