Your entire family is invited to join us for the 9th Annual Missouri City Area Kwanzaa Community Celebration! Kwanzaa is an African American and Pan-African holiday that celebrates Family, Community, and Culture.
Kwanzaa was created by Seba Dr. Maulana Karenga, Professor & Chair, Africana Studies, CSU Long Beach, and Executive Director of the African American Cultural Center (L.A.), and was first celebrated in December 1966 during the Black Freedom Movement. The Hub and Hinge in which the holiday turns is the Nguzo Saba (The Seven Principles) a value system used for Black community development all over the World African Community.
The celebration will include:
Libations to the Ancestors; Wisdom of Our Elders; Kwanzaa Founder's Message;
Cultural Expressions: African Drumming; Spoken Word Poetry; African Fashion
Showcase: Karamu (Food); D.J. Jammin J; Buy Black Marketplaace; Lifting Up The Light
That Lasts Candle Lighting Ceremony
