About this Event
In the spring of 1942, the Slovak government required young Jewish women to commit to three months of work service. Believing it was their patriotic duty, 999 teenage girls enlisted. Their railway ticket was a one-way trip to Auschwitz.
Who were these young women? Why were young women chosen? How did a handful survive over three years in the death camps?
Those who survived endured more than three years in the death camps and beg us to ask the question: Why were girls targeted first?
Heather Dune Macadam, director and author of the international best-sellers, "999-The Young Women of the First Official Jewish Transport to Auschwitz" and "Rena’s Promise: Two Sisters in Auschwitz," spent 11 years interviewing survivors, who were in their 90s, all over the world, .
