Live Music
Brewery - Mike Struwin Band 7-10pm
Mike Struwin, who began playing music at the age of 13 has long been a force in the regional music scenes of West Michigan, for lyrics and music imbued with a sense of honesty, empathy and authenticity. The Michigan native released his first collection of original songs at the age 17 and has given no signs of stopping, recently unveiling his ninth studio album entitled, âGinger Peachâ. The album, âGinger Peach '' contains 11 songs drenched in love and âone-dropâ grooves. Featuring Matt Sypian on drums and the three-part harmonies from our very own vocal âpowerhouseâ, The Backups, âGinger Peach '' conjures up memories of care-free summer days, fun in the sun and lazing on the beach.
Solarium - Midwest Hype 8-11pm
Midwest Hype came of age in the early 2000âs in the Chicago area and officially became a band in 2006 when lead singer/guitarist George Matthew met drummer Max Kepler and bassist Nate Miller and began playing music together. The three of them went on to Ball StaUniversitysty, where they met keyboard player Kevin Krizmanich, saxophonist Ben Morrisey, and trumpet player Scott Whitford. After leaving BSU the band members proceeded to embark on a grueling tour schedule, playing 150+ shows annually over the course of the next 5 years in support of their initial offering: 2008âs âColorful Love.â
In early 2010, emcee Justin âIdealâ Diehl joined the group, adding the perfect complement to the mixture of hip-hop, reggae, funk, and jazz that fully epitomizes the band.
In 2012 the band released the âDayglowâ EP, beginning with a sold out show at Schubaâs Tavern in Chicago. The EP was their first effort working with producer Steven Gillis (formerly of Filter). 2012 saw the band play numerous high-profile shows, including The House of Blues, The Metro, Wicker Park Music Fest, Summercamp Music Festival, and Hyperion, among others.
2013 saw the band hit Hollywood Way Studios with multi-platinum producer Dave Aron (of Sublime, Death Row, and Prince fame) to record the full-length LP âThe Time.â The album sets the dynamic contrast of the bandâs mix of intelligent hip-hop and soulful reggae against the driven background of progressive funk, with flourishes of hard rock and jazz. The Time was released in 2014 with a sold-out headlining show at the world-famous Double Door Chicago.
The Hype followed up the âThe Timeâ by linking with Doug McBride at Gravity Studios to record the âNightglow Ch. 1â was released as a 7 inch single in preparation for the âNightglow LPâ full-length album.
âNight-glowâ finds the Hype elevating their sound to new heights to become the manifestation of everything the band has evolved into over the past 10 years; a literal reflection of the time we live in, brought to you by a band with no boundaries that knows no borders. As a result, the Hype create a sonically unique blend of sound and emotion that is the true essence of modern Rock nâ Roll.
Like the name suggests, Midwest Hype encapsulates the true definition of what it means to be Genrefree. With an extremely high-energy live show that never fails to capture the electricity in the air, Midwest Hype is a free-wheeling, dance floor mayhem-inducing force to be reckoned with.
