Artist Statement:
In the midst of the bustling chaos of our modern world, it's easy to feel small, insignificant, and alone. This exhibition delves into these complex emotions, inviting viewers to contemplate the juxtaposition of solitude and connection.

At the heart of ‘Diminutia’ is a collection of my street photography capturing overlooked moments of vulnerability, resilience, and quiet strength amidst the overwhelming vastness of urban scenes. Through these images, viewers are encouraged to explore their own interpretations and emotions, confronting the universal experience of feeling small in the face of the unknown.

Complementing the photographic journey is the Diminutia Journal, a collaborative expression of introspection and connection. This journal served as a canvas for participants to pour out their innermost thoughts and feelings, anonymously sharing their vulnerabilities. The collected entries have been transformed into a captivating collage installation, a visual tapestry of our collective human experience.

As viewers engage with both the photographs and the journal, they are invited to reflect on their own lives and relationships, finding solace and connection amidst the chaos. Through this dialogue between image and word, 'Diminutia' seeks to spark conversations, foster empathy, and remind us of the profound beauty found in our shared humanity.

Ultimately, Diminutia is more than just an exhibition—it's a space for introspection, connection, and collective healing.

Miguel's work is fresh and clear. As a young artist, his lens showcases a voice that feels mature beyond his years, “ says 801 Salon Director, Roxanne Gray. “His point of view inspires introspection and a certain reverence.”

Artist Bio:
Miguel Hernandez, born in Los Angeles, California, and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, discovered his passion for photography at age 17 in a high school photo class. With dreams of becoming a fine art photographer, he took a leap by moving to San Francisco to study photography at the Academy of Art University.

During his time in San Francisco, he discovered his love for street photography as well as learned invaluable lessons, including the art of noticing and the journey of self-discovery. By gathering inspiration from diverse sources, he honed his unique style, recognizing that human and artistic identity is a mosaic of influences.

His approach to street photography is a seamless extension of his experience of the world – an organic process of noticing and capturing the essence of everyday life. With no preconceived notions, Miguel and his camera are in constant collaboration with the creative force, revealing the overlooked narratives woven into the fabric of existence.

Having moved back to Utah in 2023, Miguel is now working towards degrees in Multidisciplinary Design and Psychology, hoping to one day guide artists through the labyrinth of creativity.

Inspired by encounters with like-minded individuals and the solidarity of a supportive community, Miguel's journey as an artist continues to evolve. His ultimate aspiration is to inspire others to perceive the world with fresh eyes, to find beauty in the mundane, and to discover connections amidst the chaos.

For those willing to seek it, he promises that beauty is everywhere, waiting to be uncovered in the unlikeliest of places.
