About this Event
Auto Innovation at a Crossroads - High-Tech Dreams or New-Old Reality?
The shift towards electric and autonomous vehicles has initiated a dramatic transformation of the automotive landscape, with several surprises in recent months and quarters. In the bigger picture, this revolution encompasses a leap from conventional driving and propulsion systems to innovative electric and electronic systems, highlighting the increasing influence of software, data, and connectivity. And while the temptations of robotaxis and EVs has sparked ambitions among IT and energy giants to reshape the century-old auto industry through vertically integrated and decoupled value chains of so-called smartphones on wheels, this vision has recently also been challenged as skepticism among consumers and the public towards the latest technological advancements has grown. This skepticism, combined with economic uncertainties has stirred a wave of reconsideration, risking to neglect the global need for decarbonization and enhanced road safety.
In this context, the 7th German-American Mobility Dialogue serves as a forum to explore the dual pathways of automotive innovation: the pursuit of cutting-edge technology and the refocusing on a simplified, 'unplugged' driving nostalgia. The gathering aims to critically evaluate the potential and boundaries of these trends for the automotive and mobility sector, fostering a transatlantic exchange and networking around ideas and strategies. We seek to illuminate a productive path forward reconciling technological advancement with environmental responsibility and user-centric design, to pave the way to a collaborative and sustainable future for mobility.
