The Harlem Writers Guild 75th Anniversary Celebration
When We Write, We Free the World
Please join us in celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Harlem Writers Guild β the oldest African American writersβ guild in the world. This milestone honors the extraordinary legacy of literary giants and cultural leaders including John Oliver Killens, Dr. Maya Angelou, Dr. John Henrik Clarke, Rosa Guy, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, and many more.
In collaboration with the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, this special evening will feature the presentation of the Inaugural John Oliver Killens Literary Leadership Award to Dr. Brenda M. Greene, Founder and Executive Director Emeritus, Center for Black Literature, Medgar Evers College, CUNY along with a powerful keynote address by acclaimed Grammy-nominated Poet, filmmaker, and humanitarian Kevin Powell.
The event will also feature readings/presentations by esteemed Harlem Writers Guild members Judy Andrews, Minnette Coleman, Kendall Glaspie, Venida Rodman Jenkins, Eartha Watts Hicks, Venida Rodman Jenkins, Dr. Hasna Muhammad, Jade Soares do Nascimento, Marc W. Polite, Diane Richards, John Robinson and Dr. Robert J. Woodbine
