'How the world longs for your birth, bearing news of human worth;to our labour bring your mirth, Maranatha, come, Lord, come.'
(Anna Briggs)
Kick-off your Advent & Christmas season with the Royal Canadian College of Organists Halifax Centre's 73rd annual Festival of Carols at St. Matthew's United Church! Through choral music, rousing congregational carols, sacred readings and poetry, we journey from anticipation to incarnation.
*IMPORTANT* Due to ongoing construction on Cathedral Lane, this years event will be held at St. Matthew's United Church (1479 Barrington Street).
We are honoured to be joined by guest reader, the Hon. Dr. Mayann Francis. Dr. Francis is a former Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia and an Honourary Canon at the Cathedral Church of All Saints. She will read both sacred texts, and poetry by Betsy Hogan, Madeleine L'Engle, U.A. Fanthorpe, Timothy Troeger, and Howard Thurman.
An organ prelude of festive seasonal music will precede the service, beginning at 7pm.
The service is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be received.
