Experience the splendour of the Cape Winelands on board a Segway. Glide through the vineyards, breathe in the fresh air and savour the views of the Stellenbosch mountains. It’s an exhilarating, two-wheeled, battery-powered ride so you won’t work up a sweat. A Segway is a Two-wheeled, self-balancing, battery powered personal transporters: Segways are the coolest way to do a breezy lap around the farm. A whistle-stop tour, showing you our vineyards and natural farming practices in action against the backdrop of the soaring Helderberg.
Restrictions: Not for children under 10, Weight limit 120kg, Not suitable if pregnant.
On this whistle stop tour you will just touch the first block of vineyards and back. This tour still provides magnificent views of the Stellenbosch Mountain Range and heaps of fun.

11:00 Eagle Stars in Training (interactive)
On a potluck basis, we welcome you to observe as we utilize age-old falconry techniques to train various birds. The Peregrine Falcon is the fastest living creature on earth. And nowhere in the wild would you find the opportunity to witness and photograph Africa's largest eagles in flight, close-up. Watch in awe as our experienced handlers put these majestic raptors through their paces.

Eagle Encounters was founded in 2001 by Hank and Tracy Chalmers. The land, generously donated by Spier Wine Farm, provides the perfect location for our rehabilitation, release, conservation, education and eco-tourism programmes. Eagle Encounters is a self-funded Non-Profit Organization.
Hank Chalmers met his first falcon when he was just five years old - his father was one of the first falconers in South Africa, trained by an American. By the time he was 8, Hank was in love with raptors (and a certain beautiful black eagle). Many years later, he and Tracy decided to become active players in the conservation arena and preserve South Africa's raptors for their children and future generations. Hank is hands-on with the rescue, rehabilitation and the conservation programmes and Tracy left the corporate world to administrate and market Eagle Encounters.
Today the Chalmers' home is filled with animals of all sorts, and their three children thrive in an environment where every animal (from porcupines to meerkats) and all raptors are welcome day and night.
Today Eagle Encounters is a much-loved centre, visited again and again by families, schools, tertiary institutions and visitors from around the world.

If you’re looking for a fun new experience in the Cape Winelands, a segway adventure might just be it. Located just outside of Stellenbosch, Spier Wine Farm offers these family-friendly tours that not only allow you to soak up the beauty of the surrounding Helderberg Mountains, but also offer participants an opportunity to learn about farm life.
Whether you’re celebrating a birthday (children 10 years and above are welcome), having a family get-together, team building event or even a romantic date, a segway adventure is a wonderful way to enjoy the Winelands.
Before you begin, you’ll be taken through a 20-minute training session that will make even the most unfamiliar segwayers feel right at home. Then it’s time to hop aboard your off-road segway, and glide through vines and farm plains, while learning about Spier’s biodynamic farming methods and wine-making techniques.
Participants are required to arrive 10 minutes before the tour, and should have sunscreen, water, weather-appropriate clothes and flat shoes. Strict Covid regulations are in place: visitors are required to wear masks and maintain a two-metre distance during tours, and equipment is sanitised between each tour.

For these group events payments are made in advance for Accommodation or Adventure Activities or Permits, hence no refunds are on offer. If you are not able to join, a refund will not be offered unless the event is full and the last person refills your place. Once I have received their payment, I will refund you. I do however make every effort to regularly re-advertise cancelled spaces, via my various listings, that includes Facebook, Meetup and my email listing, in an attempt to fill up the event and hopefully refund you.
If you can't make it for one of the adventures it is recommended that you find a replacement yourself, as I cannot guarantee that a replacement will be found. For the weekends away, any person who takes your place must have done one of the regular walks before the weekend away as per the usual qualifying requirements below.
With cancellations less than 7 days prior to our departure day, NO REFUNDS are on offer and your spot will NOT be re-advertised as it is too short notice. People tend to make other plans and bookings in the last week are very hard to refill unless I have a waiting list.
I also reserve the right to re-schedule or cancel a tour should the minimum number of people not be attained or if the booking is cancelled by the outsourced operator or due to the weather not being suitable; in this case a full refund will be offered.
