Blind dates aren’t always successful or enjoyable, but they show you’re willing to take a chance on finding companionship or love. Today with online dating, there’s a photo of potential mates, so does that still count as a blind date if you already have a visual? Way back before computers, I was fixed up with someone I talked with on the phone for a week before we met, and I wondered how his appearance would influence the fact that I already really liked him. Would I be shallow if I didn’t like his looks? Would I be passing on a great relationship if I rejected him based on his appearance? As it happens, I did like his looks, so I wasn’t put to the test, but that brings me to the other theme – is love blind? Does it allow you to overlook physical or personality traits that aren’t appealing? If friends or loved ones have a very different take on your beloved, do you listen?
We look forward to your stories about dating and love this month of February which, not coincidentally, is when we celebrate Valentine’s Day. Word to the wise: if someone you care about has been pining for a heart-shaped box of candy on Valentine’s Day since childhood, get it!
Doors open at 6:35pm. Come to the Highline Heritage Museum, take a seat, visit your neighbor, and enjoy the stories!
