National Trails Day is a nationwide event held to encourage people to discover their local trails and celebrate spending time outdoors, and what better way to celebrate than enjoying the Violet Crown Trail?
We're excited to host our annual fun run, and this year you have the option to add on a tour of Whirlpool Cave!
About the Fun Run
Lace up your shoes for a 5K Fun Run starting at Whirlpool Patio. Enjoy the route as you please—you can run, walk, roll, or skip—as long as you have FUN! Our annual Fun Run promotes health and well-being throughout our community while highlighting the interconnectivity of the Trail between neighborhoods, peaceful wooded areas, convenient urban amenities, and neighborhood parks. The run will kick off right at 8:00AM.
About the Cave Tours
Did you know the Whirlpool Patio is named after nearby Whirlpool Cave? The educational panels display beautiful illustrations and information about the cave ecosystem and our aquifer. Join Texas Cave Management Association for a peek into the cave. There are two cave tour options: The 1-hour Travis County Room Tour is the ultimate adventure. Head deep inside Whirlpool Cave, plan to spend most of the time on your hands and knees, and expect to get dirty. But it's perfect even for people who have never caved before! Or, enjoy a 15-minute tour to see the Entrance Room. For this shorter tour you will only need to descend a 10-ft ladder. You may not be able to stand fully upright, but you will not need to crawl.
Finish Line Celebration
Don't forget to stop by the finish line party from 8-11AM! Grab a taco from Slab BBQ, sip some coffee or juice, and celebrate with us! Check out the Whirlpool Patio to learn all about the Edwards Aquifer and nearby Whirlpool Cave, and meet some of our fantastic community partners and learn more about the great organizations in Austin who support the Violet Crown Trail, Outdoor Education, and our native Hill Country wildlife!
Your registration fee directly supports Hill Country Conservancy and the Violet Crown Trail you love.
