Songs From the Road Ban

Songs From The Road Band is a dynamic bluegrass ensemble known for their compelling blend of Americana, roots, and folk music. Comprised of talented musicians who have individually made their mark in the acoustic music scene, the band came together to create a powerful collective sound. The are celebrated for their intricate harmonies, masterful instrumentation, and engaging live performances. Their discography features a rich tapestry of original songs and innovative covers, showcasing their ability to balance tradition with modern influences. Songs From The Road Band continues to capture the hearts of audiences with their authentic storytelling and vibrant energy, making them a beloved staple in the contemporary bluegrass community. Band members are Mark Schimick (mandolin), Charles Humphrey III (bass), Sam Wharton (guitar), James Schlender (fiddle), and Gabe Epstein (banjo).

Tray Wellington is an acclaimed banjo innovator whose genre-defying approach bridges folk, bluegrass, jazz, and contemporary roots music. Recognized for his fearless exploration of the banjo’s possibilities, Tray has been honored with some of the most prestigious accolades in acoustic music, including the 2024 Steve Martin Banjo Prize and 2019 IBMA Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year, and has been twice nominated for IBMA New Artist of the Year.

Tray’s artistry has taken him to stages across the world, from intimate house concerts to landmark performances on Saturday Night Live with Mumford & Sons. He has been featured at premier festivals including the Newport Folk Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and Bourbon & Beyond, among many others, captivating audiences with his virtuosic technique, expressive storytelling, and inventive arrangements. His performances are celebrated for their energy, precision, and the way he seamlessly fuses traditional roots music with bold, contemporary ideas.

Tray leads the Tray Wellington Band, a dynamic ensemble that brings his compositions to life with rich instrumentation and inventive arrangements. The band serves as a platform for Tray to expand his musical vision, blending banjo-led virtuosity with intricate rhythms, improvisation, and a modern sonic palette that pushes the boundaries of acoustic music. In addition to his solo work, Tray is the founder of Black String Band New Dangerfield which includes Jake Blount, Kaia Kater & Nelson Williams.

His debut album, Black Banjo, introduced listeners to his technical mastery and inventive approach, immediately establishing him as a standout voice in the roots music scene. He followed with Detour to the Moon, an album praised for its cinematic scope and genre-blurring compositions that expand the banjo’s expressive range. Spatial Awareness further pushed the boundaries of his sound, blending intricate instrumentation with expansive sonic landscapes. His highly anticipated upcoming album, Heart on the Table, promises a deeply personal and bold statement, weaving introspective songwriting, inventive arrangements, and his signature instrumental brilliance into a cohesive, immersive listening experience.
