October feature: Sarah Szell!
Sarah Szell is an aspiring Canadian Métis poet who this year, swapped out the prairies of Saskatchewan for the plains of Canterbury. Sarah received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education through the University of Saskatchewan’s SUNTEP program, majoring in Indigenous Studies and minoring in English Language Arts. Her love and passion for poetry goes back years but it’s been here in Ōtautahi that she’s found her voice as a performance poet. When not working at Burnside High School, Sarah spends her weekends exploring Christchurch and romanticising the South Island. She hopes to entertain you with her poems on Indigenous womanhood, love, family and what it’s like to grow up in the “Gateway to the North”.
Head on down and Speakeasy with us!
