All are invited to the 69th Annual Saint Lucia Festival at Bethany Lutheran Church!Bethany Lutheran Church, located at 256 South Walnut Street, Elmira, NY, warmly welcomes you to join us for our beloved Saint Lucia Festival on Sunday, December 14th. The evening begins with special music at 6:45 PM, followed by the pageant at 7:00 PM.
As with all our worship services, you can attend in person at our sanctuary or virtually via live-stream on our Facebook page, Bethany Lutheran Church.
The Saint Lucia Festival is a cherished cultural tradition celebrating the Swedish heritage of our congregation. Bethany’s youth will present the legend of Saint Lucia through traditional Swedish songs and costumes, while our narrator shares the story behind this wonderful celebration. The highlight of the evening is our Lucia bride, adorned with a crown of glowing candles.
This beautiful tradition, widely celebrated in Sweden and by churches across the U.S., is a wonderful way to usher in the holiday season.
Following the pageant, everyone is invited to a smorgasbord of delectable baked goods and desserts. Our Fellowship Hall will be festively decorated with Swedish Christmas ornaments—many of them treasured antiques. Enjoy coffee and tea served by Saint Lucia and her attendants.
The festival is free and open to all!
In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled for Sunday, December 21nd at the same times.
Come experience the magic of this beloved tradition that has been part of our church family for 69 years.
God Jul! (Merry Christmas!)
