The 60th Anniversary of the Crystal River Archaeological State Park is just two weeks from today, so it’s time to make your plans and reservations! The event will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, and will include displays, talks, interpretation and lots of fun! This event and all activities involved with it are included in your regular park admission fee of $3 per car. Any donations received during this event will be added to fundraising to replace the aging staircase up Mound A. Experts will be stationed at points around the park and museum to answer all of your questions. Volunteers and staff will be working on the dugout canoe. Archaeologist Emeritus Gary Ellis will give talks at 11 and 1 in the amphitheater, and Park Biologist Andy Kilmer will give a presentation at noon about plants the indigenous people used. If you wish to hear these presentations, select an arrival time that will give you enough time to walk to the amphitheater located between Mound A and the picnic area, before their start times. There will be cake, of course!
Although reservations are not required, the first 200 people to sign up for this event on EventBrite will receive a commemorative gift during the event. The park will be open to the general public during this special event, but those without reservations will not receive a special gift.
Although we ask that you sign up for a one-hour slot, you are welcome to come any time the park is open, and stay as long as you wish. Parking will be extremely limited, so please carpool, walk, or bike if at all possible. This is a rain or shine event.
