After a record sell-out of our first five evening course offerings, I am delighted to offer a sixth evening course in silver jewellery and silver clay for beginners. There's no better way to learn to make your own silver jewellery than to immerse yourself in a fun 6 week evening course and during this course you'll have the opportunity to make jewellery for yourself or as truly special Christmas gifts for friends or family.
During this course, you'll have the opportunity to build your skills and knowledge in easy to digest bite-size sessions.
With a small group size of up to 6 people, I'll guide you and teach you everything you need to know throughout the 6 weeks to make 5 pieces of jewellery to include:
A set of 3 sterling silver stacking rings
A sterling silver bangle
Fine Silver clay charms, pendant or earrings
A pair of silver earrings with handmade findings
A personal project (over 2 weeks - you can choose from a wide selection of options including enamelling, silver clay, spinner rings, cuffs, bangles, chains etc.)
In week 1, we'll cover off some basic skills in cutting, forming metal and soldering to make a set of 3 silver stacking rings. You can texture and pattern your metal using hand tools or engraving tools. You might like to choose patterned wires, make your own twisted wire or turn round wire into square wire. Whatever you choose, it's a great way to start understanding the basics and the art of the possible!
During week 2, you'll learn the slightly trickier art of chain making. It takes consistency and patience but by now, you'll have developed the soldering skills and knowledge you need to understand how to solder several joins on one piece of jewellery.
In week 3, you'll learn a new technique entirely with an introduction to the magic that is silver clay! You'll be able to make a few charms to go on your own hand-made chain bracelet which we'll introduce in week 4. If you'd rather make a pendant for a necklace or something else entirely with your silver clay, you are welcome to.
Week 4 is all about imagination and creativity. You can do so much with earrings, so let your hair down and get those creative juices flowing!
In week 5, you'll have time to finish any of your previous projects and if time allows it's time to start your own personal project which will see you through to the end of week 6.
You'll be provided with all the materials required to make all of your pieces and I will give you your materials in week 1 so you know what you have available for each of your projects. You are welcome to keep your materials at the studio in a designated locked cupboard for safe keeping!
Should you wish to buy gemstones and metal upgrades/additional materials for your personal project or any of the other projects then these will be available to you to buy on the day.
This is a wonderfully fun introduction to making your own silver jewellery and will give you all the basic knowledge you need to go on to design and make your own jewellery in future!
