5th Annual WOMEN’S SKATE CLINIC - Sunday January 25thSkate Faster! Skate Longer! Improve Your Technique! HAVE FUN!
This popular event is sponsored by the Alaska Speed Skating Club (AKSSC). Instructor/Mentor this year is Amy Fitzpatrick, past president of the AKSSC and long-time Anchorage athlete. Assisting Amy will be US Speed Skating certified coach John Monroe.
"Our intent is to have fun in a noncompetitive atmosphere working towards a mastery of skating basics."
Goal: The clinic focuses on proper technique and how to move with more confidence on the ice. Utilizing some of the basics of speed skating technique, skaters will leave with a better understanding for efficiency on the ice. "Skating faster, with more confidence AND with less effort."
Local professionals and businesses catering to skating-sport will be onsite to provide support to participants; including sharpening and equipment know-how.
[We ask that all participants have a 'descent amount' of prior skating experience in order to gain most from the course...this is NOT a learn to stand-up on skates course.]
Where: The Cuddy Park Speed Skating Oval is the perfect place to learn new skills. Groomed and centrally located in Midtown Anchorage. 'The Oval' is home to the AKSSC Long Track skaters.
A couple of our young women skaters will be onsite to assist with the course.
