What is a Robert Burns Supper? It’s a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet and Scottish national hero Robert Burns, traditionally held on or near the poet's birthday in January, known as Burns Night.
What can I expect? The evening will involve drinks, music including live music from The Shire Rats, a full formal meal, and poetry.
What will the proceeds go towards? Half of the profits will go to the Hoboken Elks Lodge maintenance fund which allows us to maintain and improve our historic lodge, so that we can continue to hold events like this. The other half will go to American Legion Post 107 and its charitable arm, the Veterans Center of Hoboken who are expanding their facilities to provide secure, affordable housing and other vital services including physical and mental health care and employment opportunities for struggling veterans.
Where is it? The event will be held in our beautiful hall on the 1st floor of the lodge. (1005 Washington Street, Hoboken NJ 07030 for our guests.)
When is it? Saturday January 24th, cocktail hour beginning at 6pm. Dinner at approximately 7:30. We will conclude the evening at 10pm.
What’s on the menu? Light snacks during happy hour. A starting soup course of Potato and Leek Soup. Followed by a traditional Scottish meal of Smoked Salmon, Neeps & Tatties (Roast Rutabaga and Potatoes), Roast Leg of Lamb, Roast Beef, and of course Haggis. For desert we have Shortbread Cookies. The open bar will be serving various Scotch Whiskeys, Wine, Beer, and Soft Drinks and Water.
What should I wear? Tartans! Kilts are always encouraged, but if you choose not to wear a kilt we recommend incorporating some plaid into your outfit. In general the event is not formal, but business casual is encouraged.
Who can come? The event is open to the public, provided they are over 21 years of age. (Please be prepared to have proof of age when you arrive.) Please spread the word!
What is the cost? $80 per person, which includes an open bar and dinner. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Payments can be made to Hoboken Elks 74, Mandee Bellarosa PER, or Michael Ramus PER. Cash, check, PayPal (@michaeljramus), or Venmo (@MichaelRamus or @Mandee-Bellarosa).
For any additional questions please contact Michael Ramus at [email protected], or enquire with a lodge officer for more details!
