It’s a colorful event where paint, water & powder meet to provide a great experience.
About this Event
J’Ouvert, or Jouvay (pronounced “Jou-vay”), the word comes from the French phrase “jour ouvert,” which means daybreak or morning. In traditional Caribbean cultures, the parade and festivities commence early in the morning — sometimes 3 a.m., However due to the Arizona heat, our J’Ouvert party will begin at a much more manageable time to avoid the hot sun and we will only be hosting a party, no parade.
J'ouvert holds historical importance to the culture of the enslaved African people of the Caribbean. The celebration marks the emancipation from slavery.
Bring your flags that represent your Caribbean, African or American heritage or purchase them on site. Get ready for a great time!
Soca, Dancehall and Afrobeats sounds will be provided by Guest DJs TBA!
