On August 24th, string players and music lovers alike will descend on Lewiston for an afternoon of eclectic fiddling and community celebration. Sponsored by Main Street Music Lessons and LA Arts, Fiddler’s Rendezvous 2025 marks the fifth annual iteration of this perennially crowd-pleasing event.
The free, family friendly event will take place from 1-4pm on Sunday, August 24th in Lewiston’s Kennedy Park, with a rain location at Trinity Commons.
This year’s lineup of performers includes:
National Folk Heritage Award recipients Don and Cindy Roy
The Don Roy Ensemble features Don Roy, Cindy Roy, and Jay Young on fiddle, piano, and bass respectively. Delivering polished, tight, pulsating sets, this trio exemplifies the driving beat of traditional music. In addition to being a favorite band on the Maine contra dance scene, the Don Roy Ensemble has played at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, appeared with Garrison Keillor, and performed on two occasions at the Kennedy Center.
Massachusetts power dance fiddlers The Star Charters
Cecilia Vacanti (of Kingfisher) and Jess Newman and Mark Price (of Cojiro) team up to play in a high energy, dynamic trio known as The Star Charters. With Cecilia and Jess on fiddle and Mark holding down rhythm on guitar, The Star Charters bring to the stage a rock-solid groove and a level of technical prowess that is complemented by their combined versatility, lyrical twin fiddle harmonies and joyful, off-the-cuff improvisation. This bopping team-up will send you over the moon!
Homegrown family band The Twitchell Hill Fiddleheads
Maisie Newell, Eric Dayan and their children, Elijah, Benton, Dixie and Solomon (ages 3 to 15) offer up a toe-tapping performance of Downeast and French Canadian contra dance tunes, as well as classical and Roma music from eastern Europe. This multi generational group has been absorbing and passing down the oral tradition, playing for contra dances, concerts and festivals all over the state nearly every weekend. Maisie and Eric have also played around the world!
