5T Group Walk in Portland

This is a very special group walk that is a favorite of local walkers, and we only do it once a year! Created by Dick Baker, this walk encompasses 5 "T"s: Train, Trail, Tram, Trolley and Tilikum Crossing.
This one takes some orchestration so the directions here are a bit more detailed, and there is a cost for the different transports you'll be riding on, so be prepared. Read on for a preview of the routes!
Registration for the 5-T walk will be at the Union Station (AMTRAK) from 10:15 to 10:35 am provided the train arrives on schedule. We will be coordinating with walkers arriving from our sister club in Olympia on the 10:33 am train. Dick Baker will meet everyone at the Amtrak Train Station with instructions and maps. The walk will start shortly after the scheduled 10:33 am train from Olympia has arrived at the train station.
Look for the big clock tower at the Union Train Station. Please arrive early to sign in so each walk can start on time.
The 6K is rated 1A, easy and the 10K is rated 2B, moderate.
For those of us that live in the Portland/Vancouver area, I recommend that you buy an all day ticket and take the train or trolley to Union Station.
Max and Trolley Tickets for 2 ½ hours are $2.80 ($1.40 for those 65 or older). All day is $5.60 ($2.80 for those 65 or older).
If you do not use a train or trolley ticket to get to Union Station then I recommend getting a 2 ½ hour ticket as the time starts when you board the train or trolley. You do need to validate your ticket every time you change transportation.
6km route – Rated 1A
The 6 km walk will start at Union Station and walk to Pioneer Plaza. From there you will walk to the Willamette River going upstream (south) until reaching the Tram Station. At the Tram station you will pay $8--credit or debit cards only--to ride the Tram to the top and then return back down. You will then walk to & across the Tilikum
Crossing.
You will then board the Trolley and ride it to Portland State where you will change to the Max (train) to ride to the Union Station and finish.
This walk is all on paved surfaces with very little elevation gain unlike the walk in the past where you had to walk up Marquam Hill.

10 km Route – Rated 3B
The 10 km will start at Union Station and walk to Pioneer Plaza. The walk will continue on a gradual slope up 6th St. until reaching the
bottom of Marquam Nature Park. You will enter the Park and take natural steep trails to the top (Conner 0.9km and Marquam Trails 0.1 km).
Upon reaching the top you will walk a few blocks and enter a medical complex of 3 different entities to the Tram Station. The
hallways are marked showing where to go for the Tram. At the Tram you will pay $8 using credit or debit cards only.
After exiting at the bottom, you will walk to and across the Tilikum Crossing where you will board the trolley and ride it to the Central
Library. You will exit the trolley at the Library and cross Yamhill to board the train (MAX) where you will ride the train across the
Willamette River.
Walkers will exit on 7th Ave and walk to and through the MODA Center, across the Broadway Bridge back to Union Station.
TICKET INFO:
This walk is a lot of fun but it will take 60 to 90 minutes longer than a normal 6K or 10K walk as you do have significant delays waiting for transportation and riding transportation. Fees are charged for Trolley/train ($2.80 day pass and $1.40 for seniors) and separately you will need a ticket for the Tram $8 round trip for each person. They only sell round trip tickets. Debit and Credit card only – NO CASH. 6K walkers will use your ticket to get on board the Tram at both ends so keep it until you have made the round trip.
