San Antonio Zoo will celebrate the 51st anniversary of “The Great (Little) Train Robbery” on Sunday, July 18th, 2021.
Each Zoo Eagle Train ride that day will host a re-enactment of the event that took place 51 years ago on July 18th, 1970, when passengers aboard the Brackenridge Eagle winded through the park and into history when the miniature train was looted at gunpoint by two masked robbers. What happened that Saturday in July became known as “The Great (Little) Train Robbery.” The crime marked itself in regional and state history as the first time in 47 years that a train had been robbed in the Wild West and the last known train robbery in the state.
The train robbery re-enactments will act as a fundraiser to support the Zoo Eagle Train. Each trip around the park will feature zoo actor educators in costume, holding up the Zoo Eagle Train passengers with bubble guns asking for their donations.
Tickets to this unique Zoo Eagle Train ride is $10 per person, and must be purchased at the Train Depot. Each ticket includes one complimentary box of popcorn and riders will be given one (1) Zoo Bucks at the beginning of the experience.
Zoo Bucks offer $1 off any food, beverage, or merchandise item inside the Train Depot OR $1 off any Starbucks drink grande or larger.
